Your kitchen table shouldn't be your office.

Farming is about being out in the pasture, not buried under a mountain of receipts and scribbled notes. We know the chaos of tracking breeding records on the back of a feed bag and losing tax-ready expenses in the glovebox of the truck.

"I know I wrote that down somewhere."

BarnDesk puts every record — animals, tasks, receipts, equipment, inventory — on your phone and your computer. One place instead of seven.

Stop spending your evenings squinting at faded receipts. Get the day back.

Six things every family farm tracks

One app for the records your farm actually needs.

Animals, breeding, chores, inventory, equipment, and the tax and USDA paperwork that comes with all of it. Built for how real farms run.

Animal Tracking

Animal Tracking

Health notes, weights, photos, and history tied to the animal they belong to. And when you sell, hand the buyer a one-page packet — or transfer the whole record to their BarnDesk farm.

Breeding & Pedigrees

Natural cover or AI with straw inventory, due dates that set themselves, 3-generation pedigrees with registration numbers, and sire performance rankings that show who's earning his keep.

Chores

Chores

Recurring tasks for the things that repeat — plus birth-triggered care schedules for CD&T, banding, and weaning that follow YOUR farm's practices, not somebody else's.

Tax & USDA Ready

Tax & USDA Ready

Receipts auto-sorted into Schedule F line items, and USDA disaster forms (like LFP) pre-filled from records you already keep. The paperwork nobody else does for you.

Inventory

Feed, minerals, medications, and supplies. Know what's on hand and what needs reordered before you run out.

Equipment Care

Equipment Care

Hours, service dates, repairs, and maintenance notes for the tractor, UTV, implements, and anything else that breaks at the wrong time.

What farmers are actually saying.

Every review below is a real 5-star review on the Apple App Store. No paid endorsements, no stock quotes — just family farms using the app.

★★★★★

"This app is so helpful for tracking vaccinations, lineage and kidding/calving dates. This is an amazing upgrade from the Google Calendar and Excel Spreadsheets I've been using. This is the first app I've found that actually covers all aspects of my farm. Everything in one place with quick access and simple alerts."

Built in the mud, not a boardroom.

BarnDesk started on Blackey Farms, our family's 55-acre place in Castalian Springs, Tennessee. We run Kiko goats, Black Angus cattle, chickens, and bees on land that's been in Lara's family for three generations. The records for all of it lived in three notebooks, a Google Calendar nobody opened, and a stack of receipts in the truck's glovebox.

We built the first version of BarnDesk because the farm needed it — FAMACHA scoring for the goats, weight and breeding records for the cattle, a way to sort feed-store receipts onto the right Schedule F line before April crept up again. Every feature in the app started as a problem on this farm first.

"I didn't want a software suite. I wanted a tool that worked as hard as my tractor and didn't require a degree to operate."
— Bryan Blackwell, co-founder

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about simplifying your farm management with BarnDesk.

Is BarnDesk built for small family farms?
Yes. BarnDesk was built on a real working family farm in Tennessee for the way small, mixed-livestock operations actually run — a handful of cattle, a flock of goats or sheep, some chickens, a couple of pieces of equipment, and one person trying to keep it all straight. It scales up to bigger herds, but small farms are the design center.
Does BarnDesk work for registered stock?
Yes. Every animal page shows a 3-generation pedigree — sire, dam, grandparents, great-grandparents — including off-farm ancestors typed in with their registration numbers. Animals carry a registration number and association field (NKR, ABGA, ADGA, or whoever keeps your books), and you can export the whole tree as a CSV for registry paperwork. Selling? One tap makes a buyer packet PDF with the pedigree, weights, and health history on a single page.
Can I transfer an animal's records when I sell it?
Yes — this is one of our favorite features. Send the buyer a private, single-use link. They review exactly what's included, and when they accept, the animal lands in their BarnDesk farm with its pedigree, weights, and health records — priced at what they paid, which becomes their cost basis. Your side records the sale automatically. If they're not on BarnDesk yet, the same link gets them set up. Nobody retypes a sale sheet ever again.
Can I use the app without an internet connection?
Not yet. BarnDesk needs an internet connection today. Full offline mode is on the roadmap for an upcoming release — we know cell service can be spotty in the back pasture and it's a real pain point we want to solve. We'll announce it the moment it ships.
How does the receipt tracking work for taxes?
Snap a photo of the receipt and BarnDesk reads the vendor, date, and total — then files it to the right IRS Schedule F line (Feed, Vet, Repairs, Fuel, Supplies, and the rest). The original photo stays attached as proof. Year-to-date totals show right on your Today screen, and at tax time you export a clean report. BarnDesk is a record-keeping tool, not a tax filing service or tax advice.
Is my farm data secure and private?
Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored in a US-based cloud database. We never sell or share your farm data with anyone. You can request a full export or delete your account anytime from your Farmer Account.
Can multiple family members use the same account?
Yes. The Pro plan supports up to 5 family members; Pro+ supports up to 15. Everyone sees the same animals, tasks, and notes — so the spouse, kids, and farm hands all stay on the same page (and nobody drenches the same goat twice).
Is BarnDesk on Android?
Yes. BarnDesk is now live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Grab it from whichever store fits the phone in your pocket — same app, same records, same login.
Can I use BarnDesk on my computer?
Yes. BarnDesk now runs right in your web browser at app.thebarndesk.com — log in with the same account and you'll see the same animals, records, and receipts as on your phone, just laid out for a bigger screen. It's the same app, synced in real time. New plans are still purchased in the iPhone or Android app, but everything else works the same on the web.
